Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority
PSIRA registration for security companies and their officers
The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority registers every security service provider and every security officer in South Africa under the Private Security Industry Regulation Act of 2001. Registration is renewed each year and lapses when it is not. Omni Field tracks each officer's registration and expiry and can block dispatch when it has lapsed.

Who must register
The Private Security Industry Regulation Act requires anyone who renders a security service for reward to be registered with the Authority, and that includes the business and every person it employs to render the service. Guarding, alarm response, alarm and CCTV installation, locksmithing, private investigation and the control room are all security services under the Act, so an installer who never carries a firearm is as much within it as a guard.
A business registers as a security service provider and each officer registers individually, with training grades that decide what work the officer may do. The business is responsible for employing only registered officers.
Annual renewal
Registration is not permanent. The business pays an annual fee and each officer's registration is renewed each year, and a registration for which the renewal has not been done lapses. An officer whose registration has lapsed may not be deployed, and a business found deploying unregistered officers faces penalties under the Act and, in practice, the loss of contracts whose terms require compliance.
Renewal dates fall at different times for different officers, which is why a security business of any size needs a register with dates rather than a drawer of cards.
What clients and insurers check
Body corporates, managing agents, estates and commercial clients increasingly write PSIRA compliance into their contracts and ask for proof at tender and at renewal: the business registration certificate, and the registration status of every officer on their site. Insurers can ask the same question after an incident. Being able to produce the register on request is the difference between a routine query and a contract at risk.
What Omni Field does about this
- Each officer and installer has a certification record holding the PSIRA registration number, grade and expiry date, with alerts at 90, 30 and 7 days and a block on dispatch to jobs that require current registration. Team Certification Management
- Site attendance is verified by geofenced clock-in, so the record shows which registered officer was at which site and when. GPS Tracking & Geofencing
- The compliance register exports as a report for a client, a tender or an insurer. Reporting & Analytics
