PSIRA (Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority)

PSIRA is the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority, the statutory regulator under the Private Security Industry Regulation Act of 2001. Every security service provider and every security officer in South Africa must be registered with it, including alarm and CCTV installers and locksmiths. Registration is renewed each year and lapses when it is not.

Who must register

The Act defines a security service widely: guarding, alarm response, monitoring, installing and maintaining alarm, CCTV and access control systems, locksmithing and private investigation. The business registers as a security service provider and each person registers individually with a training grade.

Annual renewal

Both the business and each officer renew annually, and renewal dates fall at different times for different people. An officer whose registration has lapsed may not be deployed, and a business that deploys unregistered officers faces penalties under the Act and the loss of contracts that require compliance.

Proving compliance to clients

Body corporates, estates and commercial clients ask for the business certificate and the registration status of every officer on their site. Omni Field keeps each officer's number, grade and expiry in the certification register, alerts before expiry, blocks dispatch on a lapsed registration, and exports the register as a report.
